Peacebuilding in Divided Societies

(June 21, 2022 to July 15, 2022)

Peacebuilding in Divided Societies (PDS)

The Posner Center for International Development and the Compassionate Courage Initiative are pleased to announce our ‘Peacebuilding in Divided Societies’ (PDS) Program. This program is spread over the months of June-July 2022 and is a virtual program that is a mix of asynchronous and synchronous sessions.

The PDS program examines and explores responses to the current divisions in society - social, political, economic. Further, it encourages each one of us to understand our own identities, biases and prejudices as peacebuilders.

Peacebuilding is about rebuilding societies that are emerging from violence and deep divisions and in the context of dividing societies, here are four steps in the peacebuilding process that we emphasize in the PDS program:

  1. Identifying and understanding the context and parties

  2. Selecting the shaping the peacebuilding approaches

  3. Convening and engaging the Parties in Difficult Conversations

  4. Identifying actions for resolving conflict, making structural changes, and transforming relationships

PDS welcomes all those who are currently working or are interested in working on these topics to its program. Learning in PDS will be a collaborative process involving self-reflection.

Dr. Pushpa Iyer, founder and coordinator of the Compassionate Courage initiative will lead this program.
